The criminal investigation judge decreed this Wednesday that José Castelo Branco is released but remains away from Betty Grafstein, having been prevented from visiting, contacting or living with Betty Grafstein.

After interrogation due to suspicions of domestic violence, the criminal investigation judge of the Sintra Court, Pedro Brito, released José Castelo Branco but imposed socialite as coercive measures the prohibition of contact by any means with the victim;

the prohibition of staying in the hospital where the person is located; and the prohibition of staying in the residence that the victim will occupy when discharged from hospital or of approaching it, within 1 km, using technical means of remote control.

The court also adds that there is no measure prohibiting Castelo Branco from being absent from the country and that the electronic control refers to the bracelet.

After interrogating the defendant, late this Wednesday morning, the judge heard a statement, recorded by GNR, from Betty Grafstein, aged 95, and also the medical team from CUF Cascais Hospital who is accompanying the alleged victim.

This team is responsible for the medical report that resulted in the complaint of domestic violence and prosecution by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP), as it is a public crime.

The MP had already confirmed the investigation into alleged crimes of domestic violence against Betty Grafstein by her husband, José Castelo Branco, who ended up being arrested on Tuesday by the National Republican Guard (GNR), having been heard this Wednesday in Court from Sintra.

Grafstein was hospitalized two weeks ago with a fractured femur and injuries to her left arm. The businesswoman was transferred today to the intensive care unit at CUF Tejo, in Lisbon, due to her worsening health condition.
