The decentralization of activities and the presence of diversified services for the population must be among the pillars that support the neighborhoods. This is what the COM leader of the Buildings Sector at Perkins+Will in Brazil, architect Douglas Tolaine, believes, for whom the partnership between the company and Dois A Incorporações will favor the identification of Natal’s potential. The statement was made in an interview with Jornal da Manhã, from Jovem Pan News Natal, this Monday morning (29).

For the CEO of the office, considered the second best architecture and design office in the world and the largest in Latin America, the new partnership with Dois A is the result of an old desire and allows for a complementary vision between the local and international market. The main purpose, according to him, is to improve the daily lives of the population. “We have a great opportunity here [Natal] of being able to build memorable spaces that positively influence people’s lives”, he highlights.

Among the factors that boosted the closeness of relations between Perkins+Will and Dois A Incorporações, in addition to the desire to improve the lives of the population through architecture, is the new Natal Master Plan. In Tolaine’s view, the planning brought ‘oxygenation’ to investments in the capital.

Asked about the potential of Natal’s neighborhoods, such as Ribeira, Douglas Tolaine recognizes the strategic location of the place, but states that it is necessary to diversify the functions of these spaces. “There is no point in a neighborhood having just one use. What we have noticed a lot in São Paulo and the transformation of the issue of legislation is that we need to decentralize. If I have everything centralized in a single location, it becomes a destination and the others are just housing/work. You need to have a 24-hour life and there could be a little more mix,” he argues.
