Last Thursday, the 25th, a video showing the disposal of textbooks intended for Education in the municipality of Lagarto had repercussions on social media.

Around 4,200 books that were stored at the headquarters of the Municipal Education Department and in the heritage storage warehouse were sent to the Cooperative of Recyclable Material Collectors of the Municipality of Lagarto (COOPCAL).

From the record, it is possible to see that part of the material was still sealed, inside plastic packaging, at the time of disposal.

According to the councilor of Lagarto, Matheus Corrêa, the situation raised questions from the population regarding the unusability of the books and the motivation for the rejection.

“What I am unhappy about, and most of the population here is too, is books that have never been used being thrown away. At the very least, it shows incompetence, as either the books arrived and were not passed on, they arrived late, or they were not passed on to the students,” he said, to which he added: “We know that school supplies are expensive, it’s January. , many parents know how expensive school supplies are, how the material arrives and is not passed on to the students, why is it not used?”

Portal Fan F1 contacted Lagarto City Hall to obtain clarification on the case. In a note, management argued that it disposed of textbooks after the school service cycle under the terms of the National Book and Teaching Material Program (PNLD).

“In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, management acquired teaching aid books and obtained positive results in socio-educational indicators, in addition to receiving additional resources from Fundeb. It should be noted that the books, received free of charge via PNLD, follow legislation that allows them to be discarded for recycling after three years of pedagogical validity”, says the note.

According to the city hall, the material was donated to the cooperative for correct disposal and there was no harm to the teaching of Lagarte students.

“According to MEC rules, the disposal of expired books allows schools to receive new books for the subsequent year. The City of Lagarto also informs that an administrative process will be opened to investigate the way in which the disposal was carried out”, it was explained.
