Germany fines Continental 100 million euros for negligence

-

A Continental has already announced that it will pay the fine.

In 2020, police searched Continental factories due to suspicions that the group had been complicit in the ‘Dieselgate’ case.

The process dates back to 2015, when Volkswagen admitted to having tampered with 11 million diesel cars, hiding the true level of their emissions.

Former Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn will stand trial in September, while former Audi CEO Rupert Standler was sentenced in June to 21 months in prison and a fine of 1.1 million euros, having appealed this verdict.

In a statement, Continental guaranteed that it was “fully cooperating” with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and that it would not appeal the decision.
