Vodafone confirmed this Tuesday to Jornal Económico (JE) the existence of “disruptions” in the telecommunications operator’s service in the western region of Portugal, following consumer alerts.
The constraints were caused by fiber cuts that occurred in the last few hours, according to the company. There is still no prediction of when the situation will be completely resolved, but the Internet has been restored in several homes of residents in this area.
“This is a situation that Vodafone is unaware of. However, the technical teams are working with the highest priority to restore the service, which depends on the collaboration of local security entities. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience caused to our customers,” an official Vodafone source told JE.
At the beginning of March, the Association of Electronic Communications Operators (Apritel) – based on Anacom data that there was a 4% reduction in complaints in the telecommunications sector in 2023, to 69.8 thousand complaints – warned of one of the reasons for these complaints: repairing network failures.
According to the general secretary of Apritel, these numbers “reinforce the importance of improving the law and eliminating bureaucracy, which makes it difficult for operators to act more quickly in restoring services to customers”.
“This issue has been a concern for operators for many years and has been the subject of numerous suggestions for improvement presented to Anacom and the Government, without success so far. Let us hope that this analysis results in a reaction on the part of these entities in order to allow faster corrections of service failures for the direct benefit of customers”, argued Pedro Mota Soares.
