QAnyone who has properties in their name (houses, garages, shops, among others) has to pay the Municipal Property Tax (IMI) every year and the deadline this year has already started. However, The payment schedule varies depending on the amount to be paid.
“The letter with the amount of IMI payable and payment details is sent to taxpayers by April 30th of each year, by postal mail or through the electronic notification and citation system”, can be read on the e-Portugal portal.
Now, the Tax payment deadlines change with the amount payable:
- Value equal to or less than 100 euros – single installment payable in May
- Value between 100 and 500 euros – two installments, payable in May and November
- Value over 500 euros – three installments, payable in May, August and November.
“If you prefer, You can pay the full amount of tax at once. The letter sent with the amount to be paid in May also indicates the amount and reference for paying the total installments”, it is mentioned on the same portal.
What if you don’t meet the deadline?
Now, “if you let the deadline for paying IMI pass, you may have to pay late payment interest or even a finein accordance with article 116 of the General Regime of Tax Offenses”.
