According to an internal statement released by the Workers’ Committee (CT) of the Volkswagen car factory, in Palmela, in the district of Setúbal, the company, as determined by current legislation, informed this Thursday that it intends to start talks next week to the application of the “layoff” over a period of eight days in June and 13 days in July.

Autoeuropa’s CT states, in the statement, that, “in the context in which this ‘layoff’ applies, it will not accept any salary cut for workers”.

Contacted by the Lusa agency, the CT coordinator, Rogério Nogueira, highlights that the application of the ‘layoff’ “results from a context of investment and restructuring of the factory, not from any unforeseen situation, such as the one that occurred last year due to the problems of a supplier from Slovenia”.

“This is a very different situation to what happened last year, in which Autoeuropa had to stop for several weeks due to the lack of a part for the T-Roc engine produced in a factory in Slovenia, which was strongly affected by the floods that occurred in that country in August last year”, he said.

“In this context, [de reestruturação da fábrica], there is no reason to cut workers’ wages. And this is what the CT will defend in next week’s meetings”, highlighted Rogério Nogueira.
