The richest got richer. Global stock markets continue to appreciate, despite instability (across the world) marked by wars, political unrest and persistent inflation.
There are now more billionaires than ever before. There are 2,781 people in the world, 141 more than in 2023, with fortunes exceeding one billion dollars (approximately 929 million euros), says The Guardian.
According to Forbes, the 20 richest people in the world accumulate a combined wealth of 700 billion dollars, equivalent to around 650 billion euros, as of 2023.
To calculate net worth, Forbes used stock prices and exchange rates.
Here is the list of the 10 richest in the world:
1. Bernard Arnault: owner of the LVMH empire, with 75 fashion and cosmetics brands, including Louis Vuitton and Sephora. He is French and is 75 years old.
2. Elon Musk: is the co-founder of six companies, including Tesla, SpaceX and the Boring Company. He is North American and is 52 years old.
3. Jeff Bezos: founder of Amazon, in 1994. He is North American and is 60 years old.
4. Mark Zuckerberg: created Facebook in 2004, aged just 19. He is North American and 39 years old.
5. Larry Ellison: president and co-founder of software giant Oracle. He is American and is 79 years old.
6. Warren Buffett: he is one of the most successful investors of all time. He is American and is 93 years old.
7. Bill Gates: co-founder of the software company Microsoft. He is North American and 68 years old.
8. Steve Ballmer: former CEO of Microsoft. He is North American and 68 years old.
9. Mukesh Ambani: chairman of Reliance Industries, India’s largest private company. He is Indian and is 66 years old.
10. Larry Page: co-founder of Google, remains a shareholder despite no longer being CEO. He is North American and 51 years old.
