The elderly Maria Feliciana dos Santos, known as the “Queen of Height”, died at the age of 77, this Saturday, the 27th. Born in Amparo do São Francisco (SE), Maria measured 2.25m and was considered one of the tallest people in the country , in addition to having already been recognized as one of the tallest women in the world.

The “Queen of Height” won the title at the age of 18, after participating in a sketch on the Chacrinha program. After the award, she went on a tour alongside Luiz Gonzaga and Dominguinhos. She also performed numerous performances in circuses alongside singer Josa.

In addition to her artistic life, the Sergipe native was also a player for the Brazilian Basketball Team and a singer for the Trio Sergipano.

On social media, Maria’s family confirmed her death. “It is with great regret that we inform you of the death of our Queen of Heaven Maria Feliciana. In this moment of pain and consternation, we can only ask God to enlighten you and give you peace.”, says the post.

In a statement, the government of Sergipe also lamented the death of the tallest woman in the country. “The Sergipe giant left an unforgettable legacy, having her name immortalized in the Sergipe People Museum [em Aracaju]and taking the name of our state and our culture to the whole of Brazil”, says the note.

“The Government of Sergipe, through the State Secretariat for Assistance, Inclusion and Citizenship, remained by his side until his last moments on earth. Now, Maria Feliciana remains in our memory and hearts”, concludes the government.
