Can you imagine another star in Howard Wolowitz’s shoes?

Acclaimed series from Warner Bros., The Big Bang Theory is one of the most iconic sitcoms of recent times. In the plot, we follow the life journey of a charismatic group of nerds, starring names like Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco and more.

Although the main cast is, today, widely notable, did you know that one of its characters was created for someone else? Present on the show from the beginning, Howard Wolowitz is an aspiring womanizer who considers himself the coolest member of the protagonists. In the work, he is played by actor Simon Helberg, but initially it wouldn’t be that way.

According to the book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, which reveals behind the scenes of the production, Howard was originally going to be played by Kevin Sussman, the star responsible for the role of Stuart Bloom. However, contractual issues prevented Sussman from taking the position, leaving the job to Helberg.

“The role of Wolowitz was written for Kevin. We loved him, especially after he showed up and auditioned for Leonard [eventualmente interpretado por Johnny Galecki] in the first pilot”included Bill Prady, co-creator of the series, in the aforementioned book.

At the time, Sussman was wrapping up an arc on the ABC series Ugly Betty, after the company refused to release the actor. So, The Big Bang Theory went with Helberg as Wolowitz, in a choice that definitely seems right.

“ABC had an option on Kevin and didn’t release him,” said casting director Ken Miller. “And the sad part is he never appeared on Ugly Betty again after that. They stopped him from getting that role in Big Bang.”he pointed out.
