In 1994, Céline Dion’s wedding to René Angéli caused people to talk and her wedding dress was included among the looks iconic pieces that the singer has used throughout her career. But the truth is that no one could remain indifferent to the tiara she wore and that captured all the attention.
With two thousand Swarovski crystals, the piece weighed around three kilos and had to be “sewn” to the top of the singer’s head, before becoming a veil, but what few know is that it would end up becoming a big problem.
30 years later, in an interview with the magazine PeopleCéline Dion confessed that her wedding was memorable for more than one reason, including the fact that she was hurt by the huge tiara, to the point of having to go to the hospital.
“When we are so happy, there is no weight, there is no problem, there is no pain”, he confessed in the interview in which he explained that, throughout the ceremony, he could control the weight of the tiara as he had trained for several days so that nothing would fail.
The problem is that the training sessions were carried out on a wooden floor and the cathedral where the wedding was held had a carpeted floor, which would affect the sensation of the tiara on the head.
“I practiced and everything was fine, but when I had to enter the cathedral, the floor wasn’t wooden, it was carpet. I had a lifting immediate facial”, he recalled in the interview. “I thought: ‘Am I going to get away with it? Will I be able to reach my future husband? But like I said, ‘Oh, I’m Gonna Run to You.’ I ran”.
Although the ceremony went off without a hitch, at the end of the night Céline Dion realized she was injured. “When we removed the tiara, I had a cut because the pressure was too much.” But the problem became bigger the next day. “I woke up, saw myself in the mirror and there was a wound the size of an egg in the middle of my forehead… It was so big that it made my eyes cross.”
The singer would end up being taken to the hospital for medical tests and, for three weeks, she had to take antibiotics to reduce the swelling.
