O g1 Below we look back at some of the most iconic looks from the singer’s career, which makes fashion one of the central elements of her career.
Perhaps the artist’s most famous costume, the corset with cone-shaped bra appeared in 1990.
Designed by French designer Jean Paul Gautltier, the piece was worn during the “Blond Ambition” tour.
“[Minha avó] explained to me that the corset was created to help you stay upright”, said Gaultier, in an interview with The New York Times, in 2001. “The conical bra [de Madonna] it was just an extension of that idea.”
With a look designed by Arianne Phillips, the American performed as a cheerleader during her “MDNA” tour, which, in fact, passed through Brazil.
The look included everything from pompoms to a stylized uniform.
At the 2016 Billboard Awards, the queen of pop paid homage to Prince, dressing in an outfit immersed in the aesthetics of the musician, who died that year.
Designed by designer B.Akerlund, the look featured puffed lace sleeves, crystals on the chest and a shimmering lilac iridescent tailoring set.
In the 1998 music video “Nothing Really Matters”, Madonna wore a red kimono created by Jean Paul Gaultier.
The piece was inspired by aesthetic elements of Japanese culture and visual descriptions from the book “Memoirs of a Geisha” (1997).
Since the beginning of her career, the artist has subverted gender stereotypes through her wardrobe.
An example of this was at the premiere of the documentary “Madonna: The MDNA Tour”, when she wore a tailoring set with a socially masculine cut. The pieces were from the Dolce & Gabbana brand.
At the 2012 Super Bowl, Madonna performed with a look worthy of the queen of pop.
Wearing a look designed by Italian designer Riccardo Tisci, she appeared in a hand-embroidered gold cape, a crystal crown and a black mini dress with gold embellishments.
Also designed by Riccardo Tisci, Madonna’s look at the Met Gala was a naked dress. In other words, full of transparency and highlighting the skin.
The singer wore a black lace dress, with tulle at the height of her breasts and butt. Her thighs were also exposed.
“The fact that people truly believe that a woman is not allowed to express her sexuality and be adventurous after a certain age is proof that we still live in a sexist and prejudiced society,” she wrote in an Instagram post days later of the event.
Before revealing her famous cone corset during the performances of the “Blond Ambition” tour, Madonna wore a pinstripe suit and dress pants set on stage, with some cutouts.
Just like the corset she wore below, the look is a Jean Paul Gautltier creation.
Recorded in 1984, the music video for “Material Girls” shows Madonna wearing a hot pink Barbiecore dress.
The piece is a replica of actress Marilyn Monroe’s look in one of the most famous scenes from “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” (1953).
In 2022, Madonna’s dress went up for auction, selling for $287,500.
At the 1991 Oscars, Madonna once again paid tribute to actress Marilyn Monroe, during her performance of “Sooner or Later”. The dress is a Bob Mackie creation.
On the tour that passes through Brazil on May 4th, Madonna wears a silver jumpsuit that resembles broken glass.
Designed like futuristic armor, the look is by Italian designer Donatella Versace. The outfit makes us see the queen of pop flaunt her past, present and future brilliance.
