With Madonna’s visit to Brazil, many classic images of the singer returned to circulate on the internet — some were even projected during the show on Copacabana Beach. Those who are more attentive will notice that the autograph of João Barone, drummer of Paralamas do Sucesso, appears at the bottom of one of them.

The musician himself was taken by surprise by the information, alerted by a journalist friend. João Barone then explained why his autograph appears on the wall that served as a backdrop for the Queen of Pop in the early 1980s. The photos were taken in a dance club in New York, where Paralamas and Madonna performed in the same year.

“‘Pictures of Madonna with my autograph? What’s that about?’ That’s what I’m going to explain now. My wife Janete worked on the production of the pop diva’s show where she met a friend of mine, Pedro Só, a long-time music journalist. He commented to her about some photos he saw on Ricardo Schott’s music blog -popfantasma. .com.br- where a young Madonna appears with a wall behind her where something similar to my signature could be seen… We went to check it out and then I realized what it was about… These photos from 1983 were taken in the dressing rooms of a super famous concert hall in New York, Danceteria, a (small) club with a dance floor and DJ and next to it there was a stage for shows by bands and artists, from new to established ones. The club’s original recipe was successful and became a trend around the world, including here in Brazil. As fate would have it, Os Paralamas would play a show at this house, in September of that year, thanks to Leninha Brandão, who was also manager of Lobão and his band, Os Ronaldos. We did a “Brazilian rock night” in New York. , I played drums for Ronaldos because drummer Baxter couldn’t get a visa to travel. After the show, we left our signatures on the dressing room walls. Who would have thought that weeks later, this ‘unknown’ would perform a playback show at the house when these photos were taken by an illustrious photographer friend of hers. Therein lies the explanation for these curious images. Thanks Miss Louise Ciccone!”, posted João Barone.
