The defense of Gagliasso’s family states: “We hope for an exemplary sentence soon so that everyone understands that the crime of racism does not pay in Brazil. We care about black children and cases like this will not be tolerated. I am a woman who has already I was a black child. I have suffered racism my whole life. I am a lawyer, a woman and a black person. Today is an important day for us.
‘The audience fell apart’
The column also sought out Day McCarthy’s lawyer to comment on the case. Gil Ortuzal, defense in the criminal action, spoke exclusively:
“Today’s hearing was unusual, different from anything I have ever experienced in criminal law. We do not agree with racism, nor any type of prejudice. We made an extremely technical defense, however the hearing fell apart during my client’s testimony. Due to confidentiality, no I can comment on what happened. The judge set a deadline for final arguments from the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the defense. I believe that the sentence will be handed down soon. The incident was regrettable, but we will remain firm in our technical defense.”

Socialite Dayane Alcantara Couto de Andrade, known as Day McCarthy, was denounced by Bruno Gagliasso and Gio Ewbank in 2017. At the time, she published a video on Instagram with racist insults against Titi, who was 4 years old.
