After horror and comedy, Sydney Sweeney is now embarking on a biopic, where she will star as one of the most famous female boxers, Christy Martin. The project is directed by David Michôd, an Australian filmmaker known for works such as “Animal Kingdom”, “The Rover – The Hunt” and “The King”, and will tell the story of Martin, from anonymity to the achievements achieved during his career in the 90s.

The fighter’s success began in 1989, when she met her manager and future husband Jim Martin. After entering the world of boxing, the athlete gained the attention of the public and the industry, ending up on the cover of the famous Sports Illustrated magazine, and becoming the first woman to be represented by Don King.

In an interview with Deadline, the actress revealed the reason that led her to participate in the project: “I did wrestling and kickboxing from 12 to 19 years old. I was looking forward to getting back in the ring, training and transforming my body. Christy’s story is not a light story, it is physically and emotionally demanding, there is a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself.”
