Arapiraca City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Social Development, carried out, last Tuesday, March 26, the delivery of the recovery and modernization of the Centro Pop, located at Rua Domingos Correa, 1327, in the Ouro Preto neighborhood.
The space, which serves homeless men and women, provides 30 services per day, from Monday to Friday, in addition to 30 rotating dormitories, every day, for homeless people.
With the renovation, Mayor Luciano Barbosa’s management provided the population with a place with an outdoor area with expanded storage for belongings, a series of new bathrooms and a cafeteria, living space, new furniture and aid and care equipment.
On the occasion, a lunch was promoted including feijoada and live music for all participants.
According to information from the Municipal Department of Social Development, in 2023, Centro Pop provided more than 25 thousand services, encompassing specialized monitoring activities aimed at strengthening social and/or family ties, collective organization, mobilization and social participation, as well as in the construction of new life projects.
Within Centro Pop’s rotation, last year, 1,509 homeless men and 166 women were served, totaling 1,675 people, whether migrants, people with mental illnesses or disorders, and drug addicts.
In this way, access to storing belongings, personal hygiene and food is also counted as assistance.
Among all the services carried out in 2023 alone, the secretariat presented an annual sum of 25,357 actions provided, with a monthly average of 2,113 services.
