To date, in Brazil, 518,518,208 doses of the monovalent vaccine against Covid-19 have been administered. Regarding the bivalent, the total is 35,044,754. According to the Ministry of Health, the country recorded 38,729,836 confirmed cases of the disease and 711,249 deaths.
Henrique Lacerda, infectious disease specialist, highlights the importance of following the vaccination schedule, including booster doses, to ensure effective protection against infectious diseases, such as Covid-19. Complying with the vaccination schedule is essential to build and maintain adequate immunity, reducing the risk of developing severe forms of the disease in case of infection with the virus.
“As Ômicron and its variants are currently the most prevalent strain, so if patients are susceptible to having the disease because they are exposed in some way, it is important that they have immunity against this new strain of Ômicron and its variants. Consequently, if he has the disease, it should have a milder form and milder symptoms”, he explains.
Ana Clara Costa, law student and resident of Uberlândia – MG, says she took two doses of the vaccine and caught Covid before and after vaccination.
“The benefits it had and brought to my life were very relevant, given the fact that I caught Covid twice, once before the vaccine and once after. Before the vaccine, I had much more pronounced symptoms, such as shortness of breath, I lost my sense of smell and taste. And the second time it was very mild, as if it were a flu-like symptom,” he comments.
According to the Ministry of Health, the vaccine against the virus is essential to prevent serious forms of the disease and is accessible in the SUS for everyone over 6 months. Adults over 18 years of age, after two doses, must receive a booster of the bivalent vaccine.
