Arapongas City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariat of Public Security and Traffic (Sestran), released this Thursday, 25th, a report on traffic accidents recorded in the urban perimeter – data referring to the first quarter of 2024, in addition to a comparison with the same period in 2023. As presented, Arapongas brings positive reductions in traffic rates. The biggest reduction is in accidents with fatal victims – with a decrease of 66%. In 2023, three deaths were recorded in the 1st quarter; in 2024, one death recorded. The total number of accidents also reduced, with 227 in 2023 and 202 in 2024 – a reduction of 11%. Accidents involving motorcycles or mopeds fell by 13%; with 123 registered in 2023 and 106 in 2024.

For the department’s secretary, Paulo Argati, the drops in traffic rates are due to the strengthening of educational actions, in addition to electronic and in-person inspections. “Gradually, we have noticed positive changes in the behavior of drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians. Safe traffic is possible with a combination of factors, but especially respect for traffic legislation and life”, he said. Argati also highlighted the investments that management has made to improve traffic flow. “In addition to the works that improve urban mobility, there are also investments in new signage, in addition to the presence of GMA traffic teams”, he points out.
YELLOW MAY
Further promoting safe traffic, Arapongas City Hall is preparing the schedule for the Yellow Maio campaign – a national mobilization of traffic awareness. The opening date has already been set: it will be on May 6th (Monday), at 9:30 am, at Estação Cultural Milene. “We will have a comprehensive program, also investing in traffic education, involving the whole of society”, highlighted Argati.
