Recently, a new set of Covid-19 variants, known as FLiRT, was detected in wastewater, as reported by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cited in USA Today.
According to a report from the entity, the ‘KP.2’ variant is currently predominant in the United States, but data from laboratory tests indicate low levels of global transmission at this time.
Although ‘KP.2’ is the dominant variant, it is not causing a significant increase in infections. Furthermore, there is no indication that this variant has a more serious effect than the others.
This means that FLiRT presents symptoms very similar to those of JN.1, the dominant subvariant prior to the emergence of these new variants. Symptoms include:
Fever or chills; Cough; Sore throat; Congestion or runny nose; Headache; Muscle pain; Difficulty breathing; Fatigue; Loss of taste or smell; “Brain fog” (feeling of being less alert and conscious); Gastrointestinal symptoms (stomach pain, mild diarrhea, vomiting).
