The right time to wash your face well is precisely sthese seconds.

The “60-second cleanse” isn’t new, but it’s making a resurgence. The idea is simple: instead of washing your face quickly, spend a full minute (or more) massaging your skin.

For some people this change has resulted in smaller pores and a brighter, clearer complexion. Dermatologists say that longer cleansing times can lead to better skin care results, especially for acne-prone skin.

Longer cleansing means more opportunities to thoroughly cleanse the skin of excess oil and dirt, but one of the biggest benefits is that the longer contact time with the skin gives the active ingredients enough time to penetrate the skin.

Cleansers with exfoliating acids, such as glycolic or salicylic acid, or those using acne-specific cleansers with benzoyl peroxide, will be most effective when not immediately removed from the skin.

Most people only wash their face for 15 seconds, which is not enough time for the ingredients to be effectively activated.

Ideally, people should wash their face for about 45-60 seconds. If you rinse your face too soon, the cleanser will not remove excess oil and dirt from your skin. The ingredients need to penetrate the skin to do what they are supposed to.
