Writer CJ Sansom died last Saturday and the information was announced this Monday by his publisher.

The author of the novels Winter in Madrid It is Dominion was diagnosed in 2012 with multiple myeloma, a rare and incurable type of cancer that affects the bone marrow.

“An intensely private person, Chris wanted from the beginning just to be published quietly and without fuss. But the public’s enthusiastic response to his novels always gave him immense pleasure, so he worked tirelessly on each book so as not to disappoint a single reader. The writer was working on a new Shardlake novel, Ratcliffbut the worsening of his health made progress painfully slow”, said his editor Maria Rejt, from Pan Macmillan, quoted in a statement sent by LeYa/ASA.

J. Sansom studied at the University of Birmingham. He earned a doctorate in History and practiced law. He made his fiction debut 21 years ago with Dissolutionthe first volume in the series Shardlake. This was adapted for television Dissolution – A Shardlake Mystery and will debut on Disney+ on May 1st, the date on which the new edition of bestseller will reach Portuguese bookstores.

“It is an extraordinarily strange coincidence that Chris died just days before a new generation of fans were introduced to Matthew Shardlake, Barak and Guy and company through Disney+’s television adaptation of Dissolution – A Shardlake Mysterywhich will be released this Wednesday”, says Antony Topping, the writer’s agent.
