The Health Secretariat held a joint effort to clean and fight the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which causes dengue, chikungunya and zika. The action took place in Vila Osmar and more than 470 homes were visited by endemic disease agents.

The objective was to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites in the most diverse parts of the neighborhood, such as vacant lots, streets and squares. “We are joining efforts to combat this mosquito that causes so much damage and also to raise awareness of the importance of prevention,” said Marcio Sá, Secretary of Health.

The initiative is a response to increases in the Aedes aegypti infestation rate in Timon and also in the number of cases of dengue and chikungunya, which have been worrying health authorities. the importance of preventing and eliminating outbreaks of proliferation of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito. Informative awareness materials were also distributed to community residents. “Another important action with endemic agents intensifying actions to combat the Aedes aegypti mosquito. We had an increase in cases of dengue and chikungunya, so we are going to intensify these actions. Including inspecting tire shops and scrap metal. We are also taking endemic agents to schools to give awareness-raising lectures and we will continue this combat and prevention work”, guaranteed the Secretary of Health.

The participation of the population is also fundamental for the success of these actions that are taking place throughout the city. It is important that everyone does their part, being attentive and eliminating possible mosquito breeding sites in their homes, following the guidelines of endemic agents and disposing of garbage correctly. Together, we can fight Aedes aegypti and ensure everyone’s health.
