O Ministry of Health announced that 29 more municipalities will receive doses of vaccines Against the dengue in the coming days, totaling 521 cities covered by the first half of March. The choice of locations took into account the high incidence of type 2 dengue, which causes more serious forms of the disease. To date, 492 municipalities have benefited. Vaccination, which began this month, is aimed at children aged 10 and 11, with plans to expand to teenagers aged 12 to 14 later this year. The Health department acquired 5.2 million doses of the vaccine this year, with a forecast of purchasing another 9 million in 2025. The incorporation of the Qdenga vaccine into the SUS was announced in December last year, aiming to expand protection against dengue. Six Brazilian states have already declared an emergency due to cases of the disease: Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Acre, Goiás and the Federal District.
