To start the National Vaccination Campaign against Influenza (flu) in its area of coverage, the Regional Health Superintendency (SRS) of Passos distributed 19,200 doses of vaccine to municipalities, on Friday, 3/22. The vaccination campaign will be carried out in Minas Gerais from March 25th to May 31st, with the national mobilization D-Day scheduled for April 13th.

Flu immunization aims to reduce complications, hospitalizations and mortality from influenza virus infections. The vaccine is available to the campaign’s priority groups in municipal immunization rooms, according to the schedule defined locally. The goal of the Ministry of Health (MS) is to immunize at least 90% of each priority group in the campaign.

The priority groups for the National Influenza Vaccination Campaign are elderly people aged 60 and over; children aged six months to under six years; pregnant and postpartum women; health workers; Indian people; quilombolas; teachers; people with comorbidities; people with permanent disabilities (from 12 years old); truck drivers and urban and long-distance road passenger transport workers; port workers; security, rescue and armed forces forces; homeless people; population deprived of liberty and employees of the deprivation of liberty system and adolescents under 18 years of age under socio-educational measures.

To minimize complications, hospitalizations and deaths resulting from infection with the influenza virus, the State Department of Health of Minas Gerais (SES-MG) advanced the campaign, in compliance with the recommendation of the Ministry of Health. The purpose is to guarantee the protection of the most vulnerable groups. sensitive as soon as possible. The doses offered are trivalent, that is, they protect against influenza A (H1N1 and H3N2) and influenza B. It is essential to highlight that there is no obstacle to receiving, on the same day, the flu vaccine along with other vaccines.

According to the technical reference in immunizations from SRS Passos, Sueli Veloso Maia, the first shipment sent by the State Department of Health of Minas Gerais (SES-MG) was 19.2 thousand doses of vaccine and has already been delivered to the municipalities. New shipments must be made available by the Ministry of Health during the campaign.

For Sueli Veloso, people can take advantage of the flu campaign to update their vaccination card, taking doses of other vaccines available in immunization rooms, such as Covid-19. “Influenza and Covid-19 remain public health threats for those unvaccinated. The Ministry of Health recommends taking advantage of the campaign to update the vaccination status in eligible groups,” she said.
