Representative Virmondes Cruvinel (UB) presented the bill nº 6221/24with the purpose of creating a state policy to prevent mononucleosis disease, also known as the “kissing disease”.
According to the article, the objective is to promote integrated public health actions for the prevention, early diagnosis and adequate treatment of this disease. The text defines that the policy will have as guidelines the promotion of educational campaigns on the forms of transmission, prevention, signs and symptoms of mononucleosis. Furthermore, it provides for continuous training of health professionals for the diagnosis and clinical management of the disease, in addition to encouraging research and scientific development related to mononucleosis at the state level.
The bill explains that infectious mononucleosis is a viral condition transmitted mainly by saliva, which significantly affects young people and adults, manifesting itself through fever, pharyngitis, adenopathies and fatigue.
Caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), this pathology can lead to serious complications, such as splenomegaly, hepatitis and, in rare cases, neurological conditions. “In Goiás, there is a significant gap in relation to awareness, prevention and clinical management of mononucleosis, which leads to late diagnoses and inadequate case management, in addition to contributing to the spread of the virus”, writes Virmondes.
The parliamentarian also emphasizes that this measure is necessary and urgent, aiming to protect public health, reduce the impact of infectious mononucleosis on the health system and increase the quality of life of Goiás citizens.
