Vitamin D deficiency is associated with a series of symptoms already known in medicine. Some, however, still intrigue the medical community. Vital to regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body, vitamin D brings together the nutrients needed to maintain bones, teeth and healthy muscles.

Not coincidentally, a lack of vitamin D is associated with bone loss, bone pain, low immune system, depression, high blood pressure, inflammation, asthma, especially in children, as well as poor sleep.

There are a series of other additional symptoms linked to a deficiency of this vitamin that you may have no idea about.

Check out some unusual symptoms of vitamin D deficiency below.

1. Nightmares
Typically, nightmares are related to vitamin B1 deficiency, but vitamin D deficiency can also produce the manifestation of a nightmare.

2. Restless legs syndrome
This is also usually a vitamin B1 deficiency, but it can also be a vitamin D deficiency, which is associated with several health problems, including musculoskeletal problems.

3. Acne
The sebaceous gland that is involved in acne, especially if it is inflamed or causing some type of blockage so that oil cannot escape from that gland, can also easily result from a deficiency of the vitamin.

4. Change in heart rhythm
A person with a vitamin D deficiency may begin to have a rapid heartbeat and then a palpitation and, perhaps even worse, develop arrhythmias, even atrial fibrillation.

5. Structural development problems
Structural developmental problems can occur in children due to a lack of this vitamin. These include flat feet, bow legs, scoliosis, kyphosis, which is hunchback, or sloping back, which is lordosis, dental malformations.

How to supplement vitamin D?

Supplementation may be necessary if you have a diagnosed deficiency of this vitamin or if you are at risk of developing a deficiency.
