Rice from Santa Catarina adds versatility and nutrition, and stands out for concentrating sustainable amounts of carbohydrates for humans. Once harvested, it goes through a processing process in industries in Santa Catarina, which are associated with the State Cereal Industries Union (SindArroz-SC), to ensure the best quality for consumption.

Cereal, despite being a basic and fundamental food for human life, plays an important role in health. “Rice industries have a crucial responsibility for the food security of our society. We guarantee access to basic and nutritious food for people from all social classes, contributing to the health and development of our population” says the president of SindArroz-SC, Walmir Rampinelli.

Whether for a simple meal or an elaborate meal, the daily consumption of rice is visible in most of society, as it is accessible and easy to prepare. As a consequence, grain intake provides nutrients, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and fiber, which are essential for human development. “Taking into account the busy routine that many have and the need for adequate nutrition, having a food like rice in the diet is essential”, emphasizes nutritionist, Vanessa Costa Berardinelli.

In addition to the great source of carbohydrates that rice provides to the human body, it is also considered low in FODMAPS. In other words, it will bring benefits to those who consume it, since it is low fermented and easily digested by the body. However, the professional recommends that intake be accompanied by a good source of protein and fat.

Due to its versatility as its main characteristic, the cereal is the basis for several other products that make life easier for people with dietary restrictions, with a variety of pastas, biscuits, flours and vegetable drinks. “These products can be used in countless preparations and replace traditional ingredients such as wheat and milk. We can use it to produce recipes for breakfast and snacks or even in preparations for main meals”, explains Vanessa.

Among the consumption options, the industries associated with SindArroz-SC offer the public products that provide countless delicious and nutritious recipes, with a diverse and healthy menu. Whether from the production of cakes, muffins and pancakes with gluten-free flours, to rice biscuits with pâtés, scrambled eggs, ricotta cream or jelly. “We value the essential role of industries in this process, especially with regard to the development of products that meet the needs of people with some type of dietary restriction, such as those with celiac disease, lactose intolerant and those allergic to cow’s milk protein and gluten. ”, highlights Rampinelli.
