In a press conference held on the afternoon of this Thursday, 25th, the Ministry of Health (MS) announced a new expansion of vaccination against dengue in the state of Santa Catarina. In addition to the two regions that have already received doses, Northeast and Greater Florianópolis, from this expansion, all fourteen cities in the Médio Vale do Itajaí will also be covered. According to Technical Note No. 47/2024-CGIRF/DPNI/SVSA/MS, the region will receive 47,463 doses. The target audience remains the same, children and teenagers aged 10 to 14.

The selection of municipalities that will receive the vaccines continues to follow the same criteria already informed by the Ministry of Health in the Operational Technical Report of the Dengue Vaccination Strategy in 2024. “Large municipalities (larger population) were selected to receive doses of the vaccine. or equal to 100 thousand inhabitants) with high dengue transmission in the last 10 years, including the other municipalities in their health regions, regardless of population size, ordered by the predominance of the DENV-2 serotype (recent reemergence) and the largest number of cases in monitoring 2023/2024 (SE-27/2023 to SE-02/2024).

In this way, as soon as the state receives a new shipment of doses of the dengue vaccine, they will be distributed for application to the population aged 10 to 14 in the municipalities of the Médio Vale do Itajaí region. New doses are expected to arrive in the state next week.
