The Municipal Health Department (SMS) reinforces the importance of vaccination against the flu and calls on the population to get immunized. The vaccine is available for the elderly, children under 6 years of age, healthcare workers, pregnant women, women who have recently given birth, education workers, among other audiences. 12,446 doses of the vaccine have been administered in the municipality since the start of the campaign, which represents 5.93% of the target audience.
The director of Health Surveillance, infectious disease specialist Rodrigo Carneiro, highlighted the advantages of getting vaccinated against the flu. “The vaccine is over 80% effective in protecting against infection and severe cases of the disease. Immunization is carried out annually, as the influenza virus has a very high capacity for mutation. In this way, continuous surveillance is carried out regarding the main strains circulating in the environment”, said Rodrigo.
Rodrigo also clarified the possible side effects of the vaccine. “The vaccine is very safe and side effects are rare, the most common being pain at the site of application and, eventually, malaise, a low fever, but all of them are self-limited and resolve within 48 hours” , explained the infectious disease specialist.
The director also spoke about multivaccination. “It is possible to get the flu and Covid-19 vaccine, or any other routine vaccine on the same day, there are no contraindications. Anyone who has cold symptoms, which is a simple runny nose and an occasional cough, can get the vaccine. Now, people with flu symptoms, persistent cough, fever, should avoid vaccination and wait for symptoms to completely improve before getting immunized”, explained the director.
Stockist Adriana Faria Rodrigues, 37 years old, is pregnant and went to the SMS headquarters to get immunized. “It is very important to protect yourself against the flu at this time. My doctor recommended the vaccine and I wasted no time. The vaccine is safe and will protect me and my baby”, said Adriana.
To receive the vaccine, simply go to one of the clinics, present your ID, CPF or SUS card and a vaccination booklet for those who have one. Professional categories must bring documents proving their role. In the case of pregnant women, you must bring personal documents and a prenatal card. For postpartum women, the baby’s birth certificate, pregnant woman’s card or document from the hospital where the birth took place.
