Vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease in Pernambuco ends this Tuesday (30)

-

The Government of Pernambuco is alerting cattle and buffalo breeders who have not yet vaccinated their herds about the deadline for the campaign “In Pernambuco, Foot and Mouth Disease Has No Time”, which ends this Tuesday (30). In addition, owners must make the declaration at one of the offices of the Agricultural Defense and Inspection Agency (Adagro), or on the website adagro.pe.gov.br by May 15th.

“For the success of the Campaign, it is essential that producers vaccinate their animals in all regions of the State, which will lead Pernambuco to reach the minimum vaccination target above 90%, aiming for certification of “Free from Foot and Mouth Disease Without Vaccination”, warned the president of Adagro, Raquel Miranda.

Vaccination and declaration are mandatory. Producers who miss the deadline of April 30th to vaccinate and May 15th to make the declaration are subject to penalties such as fines for unvaccinated head of cattle and for property, in addition to sanctions such as being prevented from moving the animals, participation in agricultural events and access to state incentives aimed at the agricultural segment.

Foot-and-mouth disease is a disease transmitted by the foot-and-mouth virus that is highly contagious and mainly affects cattle and buffaloes. The animal presents a high fever, weight loss, difficulty grazing and a drop in milk production. In addition to compromising the animal’s health, the disease causes economic losses, as the place where the disease is detected must be closed, prohibiting the movement of animals and people, in addition to the sale of animals, meat, milk and dairy products.
