Many people use the popular bouillon cubes as they are very easy to use. There are chicken, stew, vegetables, meat or fish, and can be added directly as a condiment. And they have the advantage of being very economical. But have you ever wondered what these little cubes are made of?

To find out, the easiest thing to do is look at the list of ingredients used and discover that they are mainly composed of salt.

This is followed by monosodium glutamate (E621), sodium ribonucleotides (E635), starch, yeast extract, saturated fats and, at the end, vegetables, meat or fish begin to appear. This gives us a clear idea that what we are really buying is salt and flavor enhancers and very little good product.

Like many other processed products, bouillon cubes contain glutamate, an additive that serves to make the flavor more intense and stimulate the appetite, promoting obesity. Therefore, it is a component that pleases and involves, as it is very tasty. However, it should not compensate for the lack of good ingredients and can also cause headaches, pressure in the temples and stiff neck.

We also cannot lose sight of the actual salt content, as it represents 53% of the content of each bouillon cube; that is, 52.9 grams of content. A very high value, if we take into account that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that you should not consume more than 5 grams per day.

In short, stock cubes have almost no nutrients, so it is more than advisable to prepare a stock at home. Homemade broth is more energetic and provides 40% more protein.
