Nutricionisya Tayla Russel listed some examples of foods that are very popular among dieters, but which have a lot of calories and can lead to weight gain.

Firstly, the expert mentions the granola, a food that is very popular nowadays, but which is “not as low in calories as we think”. A cup of it can contain around 400 to 500 calories.


Chestnuts such as walnuts, cashews, almonds and peanuts are also on the list. “Although they are very nutritious, a cup of them can ‘cost’ you 600 calories”, warns the nutritionist. However, you should not completely eliminate them from your diet, as they have many benefits, but it is important to consume them in moderation.

Furthermore, the expert recommends always controlling portions when consuming peanut butter. She explains that people often consume more than two tablespoons of peanut butter, which equates to more than 200 calories.

It also includes in the list the dehydrated fruits such as apricots, dried plums and raisins. “Not only are they calorie-dense, but they also often contain a lot of added sugar,” she explains.
