The vaccine is quadrivalent and protects against the serotypes that are circulating in the country
In order to protect the population for the next seasonal periods involving arboviruses, the State Department of Health (SES) received 14 thousand doses of the dengue vaccine. At this time, the municipalities of Aracaju, Laranjeiras, Divina Pastora, Riachuelo, Barra dos Coqueiros, São Cristóvão and Santa Rosa de Lima will be covered.
The distribution to the municipalities of Sergipe will begin upon the arrival of the technical note by the Ministry of Health (MS). In addition, the vaccine doses will target children aged ten to 14 years old.
According to the manager of the State Immunization Program, Illani Paulina, the vaccine is quadrivalent and protects against viral serotypes that are circulating in the country. “The first dose will be administered and the second dose will be taken at an interval of three months. It is important to reinforce that vaccination for dengue fever is intended to protect the population for the next seasonal periods”, explained the manager.
Epidemiological scenario
In the period analyzed – December 31st to April 20th – 552 cases of dengue, 186 of chikungunya and 13 confirmed cases of Zika were confirmed in the state. Despite the arrival of the vaccine, the population must continue adopting preventive measures such as removing rubbish accumulated in the backyards, observing water reservoirs and cleaning roof gutters are some precautions for effective mosquito control.
