Research carried out by the University of Adelaide in Australia, in collaboration with scientists from Southeast China University, suggests that regular consumption of a specific tea can significantly reduce the risk of developing the condition.

The study pointed out that the black teathanks to its ability to improve insulin resistance and control blood sugar levels, can reduce a person’s likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes by up to 47%.

This effect is attributed to increased excretion of glucose through urine, which helps keep blood sugar levels within healthy limits.

According to researchers, consuming Black tea regularly contributes to less renal glucose reabsorption. This means that more glucose ends up excreted by the body, helping to control blood sugar levels naturally. This mechanism, then, could be one of the great differences of black tea in preventing type 2 diabetes.

So, what are the next steps in the research?

Despite the encouraging results, scientists emphasize that these are preliminary and that more studies are needed to fully understand the mechanisms by which black tea benefits glycemic control.

Researchers are currently conducting a double-blind, randomized study to further explore the potential benefits of black tea on glucose control in people with type 2 diabetes.

In addition to its preventive role in the context of type 2 diabetes, black tea offers several other health benefits. Rich in antioxidants, such as flavonoids and catechins, it helps protect cells against damage caused by free radicals, reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and some types of cancer.
