UA new recommendation made by experts from the Preventive Services Task Force, in the United States, reveals that the first mammography exams, with a view to preventing breast cancer, should begin earlier. If before it was stipulated from the age of 50, now it is said that they must be done at the age of 40.
Therefore, it is now recommended that women undergo this type of exam every two years from the age of 40 onwards. This Task Force had already presented the recommendations in draft form in 2023, but they were officially published last Tuesday.

“We have seen an increase in the incidence of breast cancer in women in their 40s over the last eight years and we know that starting mammography at age 40 will allow us to detect cancers at a smaller size and at an earlier stage,” revealed the doctor Michelle Specht on the Fox News channel.
“Early detection not only leads to a better survival rate, but also a better quality of life . As a surgeon, I am able to perform minor surgeries when cancers are detected early.”to be continued.
“Mammography is the cornerstone of the strategy to detect this potentially deadly disease early, when it is easiest to treat successfully,” Karen Knudsen of the American Cancer Society said in a statement.
