The month of April closed with more than 2,200 positive cases of dengue registered in Umuarama, according to periodic bulletins issued by the Environmental and Epidemiological Health Surveillance Service of the Municipal Health Department. The latest, released this Friday, 3rd, confirmed six new cases of the disease.

Adding the cases from the four weeks of April, there were 2,216 cases of dengue. Throughout the epidemiological period (ranging from 07/30/23 to 07/29/24) Umuarama has already accumulated 4,549 patients with confirmation of the disease, while another 909 are awaiting test results. The total number of notifications (which include suspected, confirmed and discarded cases) has already reached 10,509 in the same period.

The Department of Health also registered three cases of dengue with warning signs (DSA), one case of severe dengue, two confirmed deaths and four deaths under investigation, suspected of having been caused by the disease.

Among the health units, the situation is most critical in Guarani/Anchieta, where 498 cases have already been confirmed, in Jardim Panorama (441) and in the region of the Central Health Post (359). There are also large volumes of cases in Jardim Cruzeiro (335), Vitória Régia (325) and Cidade Alta (314). There are confirmations for dengue fever in all UBS in Umuarama, both at the headquarters and in the districts – with the only exception being Vila Nova Jerusalem.

COMBAT AND ATTENTION

While several fronts to combat the dengue mosquito concentrate efforts in all regions of Umuarama, with agents to combat endemic diseases, shooters and volunteers even on weekends, the municipality has also increased attention to patients affected by the disease. At the Dengue Clinic, which operates from Monday to Monday until 9 pm exclusively to treat patients with typical symptoms, 18,087 people have already undergone screening.

Of these, 7,717 were seen at the first consultation, 7,641 took the bow tie test (PL), 9,868 exams were authorized and 1,860 patients received nursing care. The clinic distributed 26,522 units of oral serum, 241,401 units of medication and carried out 122 rapid tests, in addition to 3,846 nursing procedures.

“These are very impressive numbers that show the municipality’s efforts to combat dengue, even so we are still facing an epidemic situation and cases continue to increase. Next week we will start vaccinating children and adolescents (10 to 14 years old), but we still count on the support and action of the population by keeping their backyards clean, free from breeding sites for the mosquito that transmits dengue”, warned the Secretary of Health, Edson Souza.
