The second Rapid Index Survey for Aedes aegypti (LIRAa) begins this Monday (13), this year in Governador Valadares. Visits by endemic disease agents from the Zoonosis Control Center (CCZ) begin today and end on Friday (17).

According to the city hall, 5,843 properties will be visited. The result is expected to be announced on May 22.

LIRAa consists of a simplified method for quickly obtaining entomological indicators and allows knowing the distribution of the Aedes aegypti vector in the city.

Public health emergency situation due to

The city of Governador Valadares declared a public health emergency due to the high incidence of arbovirus cases (dengue, zika and chikungunya) on February 26th.

The decree is in the Official Gazette of the Municipality (DOM) and will be valid for 180 days, that is, August 26th.

The decree authorizes the adoption of measures aimed at dealing with the emergency situation, such as the forced entry of health teams into vacant, uninhabited or abandoned public or private properties, without having to rely on the authorization of owners. And also in inhabited properties in cases where there is a refusal by a person who could allow access to a public agent. Another measure is to increase the teams’ working hours, if necessary, and if possible in accordance with the Fiscal Responsibility Law.

Governor Valadares has, as of this month of May, 17,083 probable reported cases of arboviruses, 8,504 of which are Dengue, 8,555 of Chikungunya and 24 of Zika.

Of the cases mentioned, three deaths have already been confirmed as being due to chikungunya; and two were discarded.

Others 15 suspicious deaths from Dengue and another three from Chikungunya continue to be investigated and are awaiting results from the reference laboratory in Belo Horizonte, Funed.

In the same period last year, 4,130 probable reported cases of arboviruses were registered in Valadares, 3,647 of which were Dengue, 478 were Chikungunya and 5 were Zika.

  • Put sand in the plant pot dishes;
  • Check gutters;
  • Cover water tanks and reservoirs used to store water;
  • Place screen or boiling water in the drains;
  • Check and remove the water that remains behind the refrigerator and in the air conditioning;
  • Wash your pet’s bowl with a brush and soap;
  • Don’t leave trash lying around and uncovered around the yard and live without stagnant water and, consequently, without arboviruses
