At least six civilians were killed and 14 wounded in a Ukrainian missile attack on the city of Donetsk, according to Russian state agency TASS.

“According to preliminary data, six civilians died as a result of today’s bombings,” said local mayor Alexei Kulemzin in a message posted on the social network Telegram. The eastern Ukrainian city has been controlled by Russian-speaking separatists since 2014.

The same official denounced more than 10 attacks with Grad multiple rocket launchers against civilian targets in the city and appealed to the population to remain in shelters.

For its part, the territorial defense headquarters in Donetsk reported having recorded 10 injuries following the attacks.

The pro-Russian authorities announced that among the fatalities is a local deputy, identified as Maria Pirogova.

On Monday, the authorities of this region of the province of Donbass (eastern Ukraine) – which together with Lugansk was annexed to Russia following referendums not recognized by Kiev and western allies – had confirmed four dead and seven wounded (all civilians), after attacks by Kiev forces.

The military offensive launched on February 24 by Russia in Ukraine has already caused the flight of more than 13 million people – more than six million internally displaced and more than 7.8 million to European countries -, according to the most recent data from the UN, which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since the Second World War (1939-1945).

The Russian invasion – justified by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the international community in general, which has responded by sending arms to Ukraine and imposing it on Russia of political and economic sanctions.

The UN presented as confirmed since the beginning of the war 6,702 civilians dead and 10,479 wounded, underlining that these numbers are far below the real ones.
