The Municipality of Vila Nova de Cerveira will start with the project to decentralize the Council meetings, which will cover the 11 parishes/parish unions of the county.

With the first session scheduled for February 28the script is being finalized between the municipality and the board presidents, so it will be released in due course.

In the proposal presented at a town hall meeting this Thursday, and approved unanimously, the Mayor of Vila Nova de Cerveira ensures that decentralization promotes the proximity of elected officials to their citizens and “it gives all Cerveirenses the opportunity to get to know the municipality and express their opinion and concerns, as well as share, in each parish, what has been done and what is planned to be carried out”.

With this measure, Rui Teixeira wants to provide “a quality public service, so there was a need to create scales for sharing political decision, involving the population in the management of the territory”.

Thus, once a month, the Mayor and the respective councilors will be in one of the county’s parishes, listening to the public during the planned intervention period.

The first ordinary monthly meeting, not open to the public, takes place on the second Thursday of the month, at 2.30 pm, in the Meeting Room of the Town Hall building; and ordinary public meetings are now held on the last Tuesday of each month, at 6:00 p.m.starting next February, and according to the schedule to be approved in due course.
