North American musician Bob Dylan will return to Portugal in June for three concerts in Porto and Lisbon. The announcement was made this Friday on social networks by prosecutor Everything is New. The performances — in which mobile phones will not be authorized — will take place on the 2nd of June, at the Coliseu in Porto, and on the 4th and 5th at Campo Pequeno, in Lisbon.

These dates are part of the world tour Rough and Rowdy Ways, which will run until 2024 and has the same name as the most recent studio album by the legendary artist. “It is an immense and complex fresco of 20th century popular culture. It’s a labyrinthine vision of our turbulent present, with menacing shadows on the horizon. Magnificent”, wrote PÚBLICO journalist Mário Lopes regarding the album, released in 2020.

A unique figure in the history of music, Dylan is the author of classic songs like Like a Rolling Stone, The Times They Are A-Changin’, Mr. tambourine man, Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door, hurricane It is Blowin’ in the Wind, to name just a few. Protagonist of the counterculture of the 1960s, the musician marked a generation with his interventionist music.

The publication’s list of the 500 best albums ever Rolling Stone includes eight albums from the North American: Love and Theftlaunched on September 11, 2001 (it occupies the 411st position), John Wesley Hardingfrom 1967 (337th), The Basement Tapesrecorded with The Band and released in 1975 (335th), The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylanfrom 1963 (255th), Bringing It All Back Homefrom 1965 (181st), Blonde on Blondefrom 1966 (38th), Highway 61 Revisitedfrom 1965 (18th) and Blood on the Tracksfrom 1975 (9th).

In 2016, Dylan became the first musician to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. The Swedish Academy, responsible for awarding the prize, distinguished him for having created new forms of poetic expression within the great tradition of American music.

“From a young age I have been familiar with and read all the works of all who have been privileged to receive such a distinction: Kipling, Shaw, Thomas Mann, Pearl Buck, Albert Camus, Hemingway. These literary giants, whose works are taught in classrooms, housed in libraries around the world, and always referred to in a reverential tone, have always left a deep impression on me. That I am now part of the names on that list is inexplicable in words”, wrote Dylan, in an acceptance speech for the award that was read by the US ambassador to Sweden, Azita Raji (Dylan was not present at the ceremony).

Tickets for Bob Dylan concerts in Portugal will go on sale at 10 am next Wednesday.
