Of the total of 83 emergency services (ED) in the country, 39 will suffer constraints next week. According to the map from the Executive Directorate of the National Health Service (DE-SNS), released this Friday and covering the period between 3 and 9 December, the specialties of pediatrics and gynecology/obstetrics continue to be among the most affected by the disturbances. Limitations also remain in place on several AVC Greenways and two Coronary Greenways, one more compared to last week, in the latter case.

“Next week there will be a change in some points of the network, with 44 SUs remaining fully operational (53%), and in the other 39 SUs constraints in some specialties (it should be noted that the SUPs [Serviço de Urgência Polivalente]for example, include more than a dozen specialties in physical presence or prevention, with in some cases only one of them being affected in its availability)”, informs DE-SNS on the map.

The total number of SU identified with limitations for next week represents an increase compared to last week, when the Executive Directorate identified 36 hospitals with constraints.

“This week will be important to assess the effects of recent agreements with doctors and the impacts they may have on the organization of scales, in order to plan the response until the end of the year”, the statement from the DE-SNS.

The “critical period” experienced by the SNS, as ED itself characterizes it, has required weekly planning. However, despite this, the organization led by Fernando Araújo guarantees that, with 83 points across the country, “they have demonstrated capacity for articulation and support, guaranteeing safety and quality in the provision of health care, in a planned, organized manner, and ensuring the necessary predictability”.

According to the map, there are seven Vias Verdes that will not be able to provide a total answer needs and, therefore, will have to refer users to other hospital establishments. This is the case of Via Verde AVC at the Viana do Castelo Hospital Unit (which is part of the Alto Minho Local Health Unit), which will be closed on both shifts (day and night) on the 3rd and 9th of December and on the night of the day. 8. Patients will be referred to Braga Hospital.

In the same local health unit, Via Verde AVC at Hospital da Senhora da Oliveira, in Guimarães, will also close every night next week, with users also being sent to Braga. The Guarda Hospital Unit, like this week, maintains this stroke response closed.

As to Coronary Greenwayswill close that of the Leiria Hospital Unit (in both shifts on the 3rd and 9th of December) and that of the Santarém District Hospital (on the 3rd and on the nights of the 4th and 9th).

The lack of doctors also directly affects one of the country’s largest hospitals. The Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte – which includes the hospitals of Santa Maria and Pulido Valente – is on the list, with expected constraints in orthopedics, just as a week ago, on the 3rd. Patients who need this support will be referred to the Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Central (of which the Hospital de São José is part), which will be operating without limitations.

Regarding pediatrics, the emergency service at the Chaves Hospital Unit will continue to be closed, which will also have orthopedics closed. Patients will be referred to Vila Real and, in the case of orthopedics, also to the Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Santo António, in Porto.

Still in relation to pediatrics, the services of the Santa Maria Maior Hospital (Alto Minho), the Aveiro Hospital Unit (with the exception of the 3rd and 6th, when they are fully operational), the Loures Hospital, will close overnight. of the Torres Vedras Hospital Unit, the Western Lisbon Hospital Center (which includes the São Francisco Xavier Hospital) and the Professor Doutor Fernando Fonseca (Amadora/ Sintra) and Garcia de Orta hospitals, in Almada. In addition to these, there are also others with limitations, in a total of 19 limited pediatric emergency services.

At gynecology/obstetrics, the services of the Setúbal Hospital Center will be completely closed from the 4th, inclusive, and the Santarém District Hospital, from the 5th of December. Pediatrics, gynecology/obstetrics, orthopedics and general surgery are the specialties in which these constraints are most felt.

DE-SNS reaffirms that some of the recommendations already transmitted remain in place, such as the appeal to users to call SNS Line 24 in case of illness or 112 in case of emergency. Instructions are also given to hospitals to inform firefighters and health centers, as well as the population, about the operation of emergencies. And he warns that “given the constraints of the current situation, there may be increased constraints on access to emergency services, with the main impact on less serious cases”.
