The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Secretariat for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities, has just launched the “Intercultural Poetry” literary competition, aimed at students in the 10th and 11th year of schooling at educational establishments in the Region.

This competition, organized by the Regional Directorate of Communities, aims to promote interaction and dialogue in a school context between different cultures through poetic expression, valuing the written production of students from the Azores, in the genre of poetry, on themes such as multiculturalism, interculturality and cultural diversity.

The initiative provides for the awarding of prizes to the author of the best literary work and the secondary school he attends, respectively, a plane ticket for two people between the winner’s island of residence and any other in the Azores, and a selected set of books for the school library.

This literary award was presented on March 21, 2024, at Escola Secundária das Laranjeiras, in Ponta Delgada, on the occasion of a session commemorating the International Day of Struggle for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and World Poetry Day.

Interested students have until May 31, 2024 to submit their works to the competition, with only unpublished works of literary writing in Portuguese, in the poetry genre, being admitted, with each candidate being able to submit one or more texts.

Works must be sent to email [email protected] – these must be accompanied by the application form indicated in the competition regulations.
