It’s Holy Week seen through the eyes of the youngest. More than a hundred students participated in the III Drawing Competition ‘A Semana Santa de Braga’, whose prizes were awarded yesterday at the Treasury-Museum of the Cathedral of Braga, a space that hosts the exhibition of all the works. Gabriel Cordeiro, nine years old, student at Colégio Teresiano de Braga, received the first prize and did not hide his “happiness” and some “surprise” at the triumph.
“I was surprised to win and I’m very happy”, he told Correio do Minho, explaining that he was inspired by various moments during this Easter season to draw, through collage, “a cross with all the symbols of Holy Week”.
In what was the most popular edition ever, with more than a hundred drawings, Canon Avelino Amorim, president of the Holy Week Solemnities Commission, praised the “increasing participation of students and schools”, in an initiative that seeks greater “proximity to younger generations.”
The president of the Jury, Gil Carvalho, also recalled the objective of seeking “greater involvement of the entire Braga community in what are the city’s greatest moments” and praised the “commitment” of schools, teachers and students. “We feel a superior quality, this year we had very good work”, he concluded.
