The Union of Parishes of Chamusca and Pinheiro Grande will celebrate on April 8th, from 2pm, on the Senhor do Bonfim hill, the traditional “Sestas Monday”, which will include a popular festival led by Custódio Vinagre.

Siesta Monday is a local festive day, marked in the municipality of Chamusca, corresponding to the day on which the summer working hours regime for rural workers previously came into force. This day is a movable festival, celebrated on the Monday following Easter Sunday, that is, on the second Monday after Easter.

In the past, the bosses offered the afternoon of this day to their workers, who abandoned their activities in the fields and went to Monte do Bonfim, next to the Ermida do Senhor do Bonfim, where they had lunch in a friendly atmosphere, in what was popularly known as go fetch the naps. From this day on, the lunch hour for agricultural workers in the Chamusquense fields was extended, to include the hottest hours in the summer.
