A The Portuguese roller hockey team lost, this Thursday, to its French counterpart in the Nations Cup in Montreux, 6-5, in a game on the second day of group B that was lost in the last seconds.
After the rout on Wednesday night against the hosts Switzerland, the team led by Paulo Freitas had the difficult task of defeating their Gallic counterpart. And Carlo di Benedetto’s excellent performance helped this slide.
The FC Porto player guided France towards victory in the match with four goals (8′, 26′, 41′ and 50′) and he was the author of the direct free kick that gave the Gauls the triumph at the end of the day. Roberto di Benedetto (40′) and Marc Rouze (41′) scored the other two goals.
Gonçalo Alves (12′ and 16′ gp), Gonçalo Pinto (28′) and Hélder Nunes (30′ and 42′) were the scorers of the goals for the team led by Paulo Freitas.
Despite the defeat, Portugal remains in a position to qualify for the next stage. The quinas team occupies second place in group B with three points, the same as France, which occupies third place.
This Friday, the national team faces Spain, which leads the group with six points. To move forward, the Portuguese team must achieve the same result as the Gauls, otherwise they will be overtaken by the French in the standings.
