The President of the Republic today accepted the list of 17 ministers proposed by the prime minister-designate, Luís Montenegro, for the XXIV Constitutional Government.
The inauguration of the ministers of the XXIV Constitutional Government is scheduled for Tuesday and that of the secretaries of State for two days later.
Social Democrat MEPs Paulo Rangel, Maria da Graça Carvalho and José Manuel Fernandes will leave office next Monday to join the XXIV Constitutional Government.
A party source said that the three PSD MEPs will cease their duties one day before the executive takes office, the composition of which was announced today, and in which they will be responsible for Foreign Affairs, Environment and Energy, and Agriculture and Fisheries, respectively. .

PROFILE: Nuno Melo, from Camarate commissions of inquiry to Minister of Defense
The centrist leader, Nuno Melo, who chaired one of the commissions of inquiry into Camarate, arrives at the Government as Minister of Defense through the hand of the prime minister-designate, Luís Montenegro, after the PSD and CDS competed together in the legislative elections.
Nuno Melo, 58 years old, was born in Joane, Vila Nova de Famalicão, and arrived at the Assembly of the Republic in the VIII legislature, in 1999, elected by Braga, a constituency for which he ran in the following two legislatures, being elected parliamentary leader in July 2004 and vice-president of parliament in 2007.

Economist and former Deputy Secretary of State for Internal Administration Fernando Alexandre was Luís Montenegro’s choice for Minister of Education, Science and Innovation.
The holder of the Education portfolio in the XXIV Constitutional Government was part of the first executive led by Pedro Passos Coelho, between 2013 and 2015, having resigned due to alleged incompatibilities with the then minister Anabela Rodrigues.
Born in 1972, Fernando Alexandre has a PhD in Economics from the University of London, Birkbeck College, and teaches at the University of Minho, where he served as pro-rector, president of the School of Economics and Management and director of the Economics department.

Born in Vila Verde, he has worked in Brussels, having been present at several European Parliament actions, as a co-rapporteur, and was even considered the most influential Portuguese MEP.

He has a degree in engineering and was also president of the Vila Verde City Council.
