First dismissal in the “Toni Government” for the European Wine Championship: Costinha was injured and will not be able to help Portugal at VinoEuro2024 – which will take place between May 22nd and 25th in the Bairrada region.
The “Minister” Costinha was injured and will be missing the Portuguese selection of winemakers at next month’s European Wine Championship.
According to the newspaper O Jogo, the former Portuguese international and currently wine producer has a knee injury which will make it impossible for him to be present in the competition that takes place May 22nd to 25th in Bairrada.
O VinoEuro 2024 – football tournament that brings together winemakers with the best touch of the ball in Europe – is played this year in Portugal.
In this competition, teams made up of players exclusively with professions related to the wine production – the case of Costinha.
In February, the “Secret 6”from the former number 6 of the national team, produced in Mirandela deserved the distinction the third best national redfrom the “Top 10 Portuguese Wines by Essência do Vinho”.
After being present in the game of legends between Real Madrid and FC Porto, last week, Costinha will miss VinoEuro 2024 with a stage in the stadiums of Anadia, Oliveira do Bairro and Mealhada.
It will be a great setback for the friend and selector of Portuguese winemakers, Tony – a “son” of Bairrada and one of the greatest glories of Portuguese football.
Portugal face, in the group stage, Austria, Slovenia and Hungary. The other group will have Czechia – winner of the previous edition –, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
The games will be divided between the three municipalities of the Bairrada region, mentioned above, but, as expected, the final will be played… in Anadia – which, recently, became known globally as the “wine capital of the world” .
The organization is under the responsibility of the Union of European National Football Teams Winemakers and the Football Association of Winegrowers of Portugal.
