A total of 5,664 crimes were recorded by police authorities in 2023 in the district of Beja, 586 more than in the previous year, reveals the Directorate-General for Justice Policy (DGPJ).

According to the annual statistical highlight, published on the DGPJ website, in 2023, a total of 5,664 crimes were registered in the district of Beja by the police forces, namely PSP, GNR and Judiciary Police, a number that increases for the fourth consecutive year.

In terms of crimes, the most recorded was crimes against property, with a total of 2,485, 369 more than the previous one.

1,559 crimes against people were also recorded, 50 more than in 2022, and 933 crimes against life in society, 92 more than in the previous year.

In crimes against the State there was an increase of 68 reports, for a total of 158, while in crimes against pet animals there was a decrease of 19 reports compared to 2022, for a total of 31 in 2023.

Finally, in crimes related to separate legislation, the police authorities registered 496 reports in the region, 27 more than in 2022, of which 101 relate to drug trafficking (six fewer than the previous year) and 10 to illegal immigration (one less than in 2022).
