For the president of the Junta de Riachos, the work will bring significant improvements to customers and market vendors who currently work without conditions.

The long-awaited redevelopment of Mercado de Riachos, which operates in a building located on Rua dos Cingeleiros, acquired by Torres Novas City Council in 2020 for the amount of 65 thousand euros, will finally move forward. The development of the project was recently awarded to an external company to which ideas were transmitted, both from municipal technicians and from the Junta de Riachos, about what is intended for the building.
“It will be equipment tailored to the needs of the population of Riachos. In the house where the parish council was located, part of the market will be built with fruit and vegetable stands, which will have all the conditions. The exterior part will function as a multipurpose space. Covered with tarps, it will be used to host various events such as craft fairs, concerts, exhibitions and racho festivals”, the president of the Junta de Riachos, António Júlio Pereira Jorge, told O MIRANTE.
For Pereira Jorge, this work, long awaited by the population and parish council, will bring significant improvements to market vendors who currently work “without the minimum hygiene and health conditions”, as well as to the customers who frequent it.
The former Mercado de Riachos, which has a total area of 850 m2, a covered area of 400 m2 and an uncovered area of 450 m2, was acquired by the municipality from the company Casa Agrícola Antunes Barroso, Lda, in October 2020.
