Four thousand young people marched for freedom in the streets of Barcelos

More than four thousand students participated, this Tuesday afternoon, in the March for Freedom, as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, promoted by the Municipality of Barcelos.

After the parade, the students gathered at Largo do Município, where the mayor greeted the participants – students and teachers – thanking them for their dedication and work, which made this great demonstration to celebrate the 25th of April possible.

“It’s a very beautiful day, full of celebration, color and joy. Always fight for the values ​​of April. The future belongs to the young. It is built by young people”, highlighted Mário Constantino Lopes.

Students aged 14 and over participated in this event, belonging to the Rosa Ramalho, Vale do Tamel, Vila Cova, Braga Oeste, Alcaides de Faria, Secundária de Barcelos, Manhente, Barcelinhos, Gonçalo Nunes, ETG, Profitecla, Colégio La Salle, Abel schools. Varzim, APAC, APACI and Viatodos.

Schedule for April 25th

April 25th has an intense schedule throughout the day. Early in the morning, at 10:00, the flag is raised at the Paços do Concelho building, followed at 10:30, on Avenida Sidónio Pais, by a parachutist launch in Free Fall and, at 11:30, the Fanfare parade and street entertainment (folklore) in the streets of the Historic Center.

In the afternoon, at 3:00 pm, the Solemn Session of the Municipal Assembly of Barcelos begins, in the Paços do Concelho auditorium, and, at 6:00 pm, in Largo da Porta Nova, the concert “Mil Vozes A Cantar Abril” begins ” with the participation of 70 choral groups and the Orquestra da Banda Musical de Oliveira.

Durão Barroso Conference

Still within the scope of the Celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, the Historical-Cultural Recreation of the 25th of April will take place on the 27th of April, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with the participation of Theater Groups from the municipality of Barcelos, which will involve around 150 actors.

On April 28, Sunday, the Conference “Portugal in Europe and the World” will be held, by former European Commissioner Durão Barroso. The initiative, which takes place in the Paços do Concelho auditorium, starts at 9:15 pm and has free entry.
